The First Springtime Copy

Today, which is March 9th 2009, I received a message from a guy called Michael Levy. Based on the Springtime Guitar he made a replica with just one behind the bridge pickup like on MauroÕs version and John SchmersalÕs Twister. The bridge construction with the long intonation screws is more close to green proto type I built in 2004.

This is the third person that informed me about a self-built replica. The other two had made Moonlander copies. IÕm going to search my inbox for the pics of those and set up a nice gallery. I very much enjoy it when more people are co-building guitars based on the string resonance and the other ideas I try out. So all who have this intention keep me updated.

Michael also built a replica of my proto drum bar guitar, after seeing Liam Finn playing on it in the YouTube clip.

The Predecessors

Of course IÕm not the first who started with adapting guitars, although I wasnÕt aware of the other examples when I started I. Every now and than get bits and pieces of information about other people who had adapted their guitars. I had heard about Lee RanaldoÕs tailed bridge jazzmaster with an additional pickup in the rear, but had never seen it for many years. I found it last week for the first time. This is probably the one some forums refer to it as Lee RanaldoÕs ŌSilver RocketÕ guitar, built by a fan for him. If I get the change IÕm going to ask Lee about this one and if it has certain good aspects.

Also Sam Dooke from The Go! Team showed me some of his adapted guitars. I liked the rough looks of his works. He has a telecaster with an additional rotated pickup for the EA section. He also had built this funny stair shaped drum guitar.
