Sonic YouthÕs Jazzmasters
Sonic YouthÕs legendary Fender Jazzmaster is released in special Lee and Thurston signature editions. Lee Ranaldo told me about this production of Fender when I met him concerning the Moonlander. He mentioned it was becoming blue. Very excited it actually happened, since I make exclusive transparant blue ones for the protoÕs only and this is in a way a big part of how I promote my instruments making them more exclusive. The transparant color of LeeÕs looks exact like mine, wow. I didnÕt know it would have become so similar in looks like mine and thought it would become Lake Placid Blue like the vintage Fenders. ThurstonÕs is green, also transparant and awesome in appearance. They are both the most eye pleasing versions IÕve ever seen.
Very cool there are no eq knobs. Supported by LeeÕs suggestion to leave all interfering electronic crap out and I never put it in. ItÕs more work to manage and totally useless and spoiling the sound from the source. Sometimes I put in not even a volume knob, but just a on/off switch.
Fender has a special page with more info about the guitars, see external link.

"When Fender came to us with an offer
to make signature models of our Jazzmaster guitars we jumped at the chance.
These are the guitars that have defined the sound of Sonic Youth for more than
20 years. Although we love all guitars, Jazzmasters are the ones we've modified
and perfected for our uses over the years. With massive input from our great
road crew we've come up with a Thurston Jazzmaster & Lee 'Jazzblaster' that
fully reflect the current state of the guitars we play in 2009. In fact, we couldn't
wait to get our hands on these axes - the prototypes of our Fender models have
already been thrust into action during the recording of our latest album, 'The
Eternal', and have already begun to acquire the scrapes and scarz of live
performance. These guitars rock Sonic style!" - Thurston Moore/Lee Ranaldo
