The Reactable

The reactable looks like some kind of a computer graphics tablet to create sounds on by placing and moving objects on. There exist several different objects, some generate beats, others sound like a tone generator or a ring modulator, etc.. Depending on their position on the table they change in their sound. Near to the centre faster or higher, by rotating also the sound alters on each module for instance in Eq-balance. The objects also can respond on eachother, causing gentle clipping effects.

I was amazed when I saw it on YouTube, but itŐs not so special as it might look. ItŐs a regular classic modular synthesizer, only the surface and how to play it differs from the usual exteriors of these instruments. Comparable with MS-DOS and Windows. For certain applications probably more handy than a regular piano keyboard synth. The jumping clipping effects for instance seem to work very easy. Bjork uses one.
